I try to be a little reserved with my posts on facebook, mostly because my stores page is linked to it. I don’t get too vulgar, nor do I want any negative stuff on my wall. Of course, I joke around and stuff, post inappropriate Greek jokes and stuff.. But I don’t get out of hand. That’s what my other twitters are for, and this blog. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine started this Hellenic Leadership Council website, basically for all us Greeks to get together to support one another.. As a favor, I reposted one of their posts, and some kid I’m friends with (he used to be a customer), wrote some bs on the post. Something to the effect of ‘no thanks, screw Greece.’ I deleted the post. Today, I posted one of the great ‘F**k it, Let’s Go To Greece.’ photos from tumblr. I’ve gotten over 50 likes on it, and a few comments.. One of them said how great of an ad campaign this is. Earlier this evening, that same kid who wrote other malakies writes ‘f**k it, let’s not.’ I don’t like negativity, so I delete it. He then writes ‘what kind of asshole shit is this??’ Sooo.. I delete that comment and then unfriend him. I just don’t get it.. You’re entitled to your opinion, but don’t go writing it on other peoples walls. And one of my biggest pet peeves are Greeks who talk shit about their country when they either A) never have been there before, or B) the last time they were there was like 1970. If us Greeks stuck together and supported one another.. We’d be unstoppable.
Being a small business owner.. complete strangers tend to divulge really really really personal shit to you, sometimes a little more than one would like. I’ve sat on the phone with older people and just listened to them because… well… I knew they were probably lonely. I’ve heard some of the craziest, randomest shit. like, “What cd would you recommend for a wedding? I’m djing… for my mom. I guess third time’s the charm, huh?”
Today though.. This lady calls me and says that she has a couple boxes of stuff that she wants to get rid of, vhs tapes, and some cds.. she starts telling me that she’s all alone, and two Polish gypsies took her info and took out two mortgages in her name, and cleaned out her bank account. She said she knows that they might be trying it again with someone else… she said that she used to be married to a Greek guy, but they divorced and he remarried and she can’t ask him for help because he doesn’t want his new family to know that he was married before. She started saying other stuff.. and it was depressing the shit out of me.. she lives in the far suburbs and she doesn’t have a car.. I honestly don’t know what she wants, and i’m kinda… scared to actually go to this ladies house.. with how crazy people are these days… I dunno.
I try to help people, but I can only do so much, ya know?
